Frequently Asked Questions
What does a digital forensic expert do for a defense attorney?
I independently examine phones, computers, and cloud data, review what law enforcement extracted, and testify about what the data does and does not show.
What should I send you to start?
The device or the discovery (extraction reports, UFDR or Cellebrite Reader files, warrants), the charges, key dates, and your question for the expert.
How long does an examination take?
It depends on my schedule and the scope of the case. With a clear path, I can usually extract a device in a day or less and finish the analysis within a week. If you have a court date or deadline, reach out early and I'll plan around it.
Can you review an extraction the police already made?
Yes. Independent review of law enforcement extractions is a core service.
Do you work with public defenders?
Yes. I'm an accepted digital forensic expert with the Oregon Public Defense Commission, and OPDC rates apply to those cases.
Where do you work?
Corvallis, Albany, Salem, Eugene, Portland, and throughout Oregon, on-site or remote.
Do you work on civil cases?
Yes. I work with civil attorneys on matters such as financial disputes, wrongful death, and other litigation involving digital evidence, as well as corporate investigations including IP theft, employee misconduct, legal holds, and eDiscovery support.
Can you testify?
Yes, in Oregon circuit courts and federal court.
